Starting Baldurs Gate - Need advice

Post by xraygord »

I just finished IWD2 and now i'm gonna start the Baldurs Gate series(can't wait). What I need to know is what patches I need to download, I took a look at the sticky, but the list was huge and i didn't know where to begin. I'm not interested in mods that give extras or anything like that, I just want the basics to make the game enjoyable without any bugs. Thanks.

Which version do you have, the 3 cd (including TotSC) or the 5 cd?

Yeah, I bought that collection when my original BG and SOA stopped working - Its a single disc for each of the games (ie TOB SOA BG and ToSC all only have one disc)

I would simply suggest the newest patches from Bioware... As well as that if your playing BG1 I would also suggest the tutu mod - hard to play BG 1 sometimes in 640x480 resolution lol, it really does make the game a lot more enjoyable but to each their own.

The deviant in me recommends a third party bugfixes as well- Baldurdash has a good little fixpack for little bugs that you might run into here and there. I wouldn't really call that a mod, just making more of the gameplay conform to the written rules. But if you still want all of the exploits in the game, ignore me. :)

In that case you do not need a patch, unless you want to try one of those unofficial ones suggested here. The game is unsupported for many years and the latest official patch is now incorporated in the game originals.

Best advice. Ahh a Baldur's Gate virgin... I envy you - the first foray into the Sword Coast, enjoy every moment. It's never as good as the first time ;)

Well the version I got today was Baldurs Gate 2 - The Collection, I misunderstood what I was getting, so I guess I'm in the wrong forum. By the way it has 5 cds.
