Is Icewind Dale worth getting? I'm in the middle of BG 2 right now
As I said, I'm in somewhat close to finishing BG 2 now, and I was just wondering if I should also get Icewind Dale?
Is it as good as BG 2 and Torment?
That's all I wanted, I really appreciate any responses.
Thanks,

I have only seen one bad point,no NPC's like in BG2.You have to make your whole party. Or this could be better. NOT.

"Vile and evil, yes. But, That's Weasel" From BS's book, MD 20/20: Fine Wines of Rocky Flop.
That could be a good thing though, it means that the focus of the story would be on your whole party, instead of just the main guy, which could be just as cool as the NPC's in BG and BG 2.
(However, I WOULD miss Minsc and Boo after awhile)
Thanks for the advice!

Yes,it uses 2nd edition rules.
As mentioned above,it is different than the BG series. The story is simple, but you got to fight many monsters and explore many dungeons (great artwork here). The spell effects are also different from the BG series-in my opinion some look better!.
Overall you will spent around 40-60 hours of gameplay.Good luck!

This is a top game - worth waiting for the bundle though.
Lead your self-made characters all the way to level 14 (or whatever). Slash and magic missile your way through hordes of undead, trolls and yuan-ti. Classic, if more linear than the BG games.

I just wish you could turn team damage off Some mage spels are useless cause they hurt everything. Flamestrike is sorta the same as BG2 except it hurts the guys beside the victem.

Yeah. Minor gripe in that a lot of the spells are kind of 'area effect' (flame strike) but you can only target enemies (and not the ground like fireball) - by the time the spell is cast the dude is in toe-to-toe combat with your fighters. Nice. I say, have those protection from fire spells ready!

Agree worht every penny. If only to fill the gap between BG1 & 2. Having said that, it could take off bigtime with Heart of Winter. Worth a second playing to refine your party ready for an export.
BTW, I was thinking of doing a party of three multi classed chars to cover all the angles and max out those xps, but they'd only be as good as a party of 6 wouldn't they? And half the attacks. A party of 3 single classed? That's only an extra level or 2 apiece, not really worth it.
Proximo - Strength and Honour!
Shadows and Dust!

Well if you had a
mage/cleric= 1 attack
Fighter/thief= 1 attack
Ranger= 2 attacks.
That really woudnt be all that bad of a party. Everyone with 18 Con of course
They would need all the extra Hp's they could get.

And don't forget, Icewind Dale will run very smooth on your computer. Quicksaving once and reloading until you get a nice hp-roll is just a matter of seconds, which means I did it 8 times in about half a minute, which is probably what it took me to quickload a game in BG2 in the same time.
Same goes with area-transitions and launching the game, I love it for that extra-speed.

Where there's a will, there is a way.
And if there is no way, then we're going to hack and shoot it clear!

Ah the child of Bhaal has awoken.
It is time for more experiments.
The pain will only be passing, you should survive the process.
Interesting, you have much untapped power.
Do you even realize your potential?
More intruders have entered the complex, master.
They act sooner than we had anticipated.
No matter, they will only prove a slight delay.
...
AAAAARGH!!!
...
Wake up you! blablabla...
Yeah I know what you mean.
About IWD, I thought it was too linear. Also, there was too much fighting involved and only a weak storyline. I always had the feeling "Another floor? Geez... Am I in the Empire State Building or what?"
It was a very difficult game as well.
You could say it's the exact contrary of Planescape Torment. PT was all about the storyline and almost no hack & slashin'. Icewind Dale is nothing but fighting.
Both were linear though...
Anyway, it all depends on your own style? I prefer a strong storyline myself. Baldur's Gate 2 is perfectly balanced. The story is great, the adventuring part rules too, and it ain't linear at all.

There's a lot of stuff in the downloads/special edition which refer to IWD - Everard's mace etc. Drizzt and his party.
Its nce to be able to fill in the gaps.
