tried to install kotor on my laptop as i'm thinking of playin a 2nd time,
but i have trouble installing - disk 1 worked fine, but inserting disk 2 after
the prompt gave me an error msg , said that the file can't be found.
i tried to open disk 2, and disk 3 for that matter, but the cd drive just
won't register the contents of the disks. Tried to 'refresh', and
that didn't work either.
Try lowering your CD drive speed, through Windows.

Depending on your flavor of Windows, it might be under your Device Manager, or possibly in Sound and Audio Devices, in your Control Panel. What you want to do, in any case, is slow down the maximum speed on your CD drive. The slower the speed while reading, the more likely the drive is to correctly interpret slightly damaged disks. That should allow you to copy them and make back ups, as well.
If the drive itself is the problem, you might try copying the disks on somebody else's machine. Other than that, I don't see how we can help you--except to recommend you contact the developers, to see about getting a reduction in price for purchasing a new set.

i had a similar problem with KOTOR 2. i never have installed ROTOR2 before, and i put it in. disk 1 installation is fine, but when the "insert disk 2" message pops up, i have problems. i put the 2nd disk in, and i wait and wait and wait and have no response. if i click "ok" when the path adress bar has the defalt "D:" in it, the program goes unresponsive. if i click "browse", the program goes unresponsive. if i click "x", nothing happens, and if i click cancel, it cancels. if i click ok with anything but "D:", i get a message saying that i need to check the path or the disk and make sure it is correct. please help!
well, i did use that USB trick, but it froze because i think my cpu was overloaded, but what is switching internaly? can you explain how to do that please?
We're getting into technical issues that require more than just simple software answers. So I'm moving this to the Tech forum.

If you are using Vista I have encountered this particular problem before when installing KOTOR and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. Also when it happened to me it made my DVD-drive unreadable until I restarted (this was on a brand new laptop). I discovered the way around the problem in Vista is to ingore autorun, open the disc and right click on setup and Run as Administrator. Had no trouble installing after that. As to why this happens... I have only theories... Good Luck.
