Planar Sphere question

Post by julieg69@hotmai »

Hello to anyone that can answer my question

I am in the Planar Sphere and The walkthrough says that it is just a bunch of Halfings in area 4....but i am coming up against two wizards and my people can't even get to them with getting stunned...

If anyone can help me out and let me know what i need to do it would help me out a lot......

Thanks
Julie

Are you talking about Tolgerias and his buddy or about the spellcasters that the halflings have amongst them.

Cause area 4, in Planar Sphere 1 zone IS the place for the halflings, I just did it with my wizard. They really aren't that tough, but they do cast stun spells.

If you're talking about Tolgerias, then yeah he and his sidekick are two tough mages though I kind of use a cheesy tactic against them.

If you talking about Tolgerias just let me know and I'll post my tactic.

the halflings guard the bridge - I like traps and area effects to deal with them.

Tolgerias and his mate are further on - I find summoning help is usually a good idea for that encounter.

also remember he IS a mage, so mage disabling tactics work.

Damn so it's the halfings that are stunning me.... .See i get them both together.... the halfings, Tolgerias and his buddy all at once..... i walk into the bridge area and i kill 3 or 4 halfings..... than i get that ambush and before i can do anything i get stunned...... than killed.... I can't stop it..

I have Minsc, Yoshimo, Nalia, Aerie, and Valygar in my party right now.... if anyone of them can do it alone let me know... i just want to kill them already. So yeah i would love your "chessy tactic" to get rid of them.....

Did you give Aerie or Nalia cloud spells? Or does Nalia have a cloud-casting wand? Cast invisibility, send them closer, and cast cloud. It almost certainly won't kill the mages, but it will hurt them, and possibly kill off some friends of theirs. I've used that tactic with success several times.

Hmm weird, I never get Tolgerias and the halflings in the same room. So my "cheese" tactic might not work in this case, but here it is anyways, maybe you can modify to work for your situation.

Basically what I do, is open that door where Tolgerias and his buddy is (again not the bridge with the halflings, but it's Planar Sphere 3 Section 1 on the walkthrough here) and Tolgerias doesn't see you yet, and he therefore doesn't turn hostile yet. What I do is summon a Nishruu (also works with summon Hakeashar if you high enough lvl) and send it in as far as mu view area allows me. Once I do that I send someone with Haste (last time it was Keldorn with boots of speed) to trigger Tolgerias. You get a dialog. As soon as it's over I get Keldorn out and the two mages try to kill the Nishruu, who is of course immune to all magic. While they are wasting their spell on the Nishruu, I have my 3 mages (Jan, Aerie and My main char who is a pure mage) cast all the cloudkill spells and fireballs they got memorized. By the time the cloud dissipates you'll have yourself two very dead mages

Of course this might not work if there are halflings there who can kill the Nishruu with melee weapons, but then again the cloudkills and fireballs might just kill them quick enough to where they don't cause any problems. The key is to keep your party away from view, and let the Nishruu absorb all the magic attacks.

I never get them in the same room either. I mainly use summoned creatures on the halflings. I don't really NEED to, I suppose, but it was my tactic when I started playing and didn't know many strategies yet. It kinda stuck with me. Anyway, the summoned creatures work with the halflings because if you send a wizards eye with them, the halflings never see YOU, whereas Tolgerias&co spot you immediately (at least when they are not in area 4 like with you)

the halflings have their own casters - i think the OP is referring to the halfling casters NOT Tolgerias etc.

the way to deal with the halflings is "piecemeal" - you arm your party with missiles and one tanked up to hold the door from the knights room. you open the door and the front character holds the door while the rest pepper them. once that lot are done for you advance and use area effects or summoned creatures for those nearer the bridge. eventually when the halfling force has been substantially weakened, you go in and fight the last few directly.
I sometimes lay traps or glyphs to ambush them - you can set up skull traps or thief traps and glyphs in a space then have your character tempt the enemy over - if they have boots of speed/haste they can run quickly round the trigger area and get 'behind' the traps so that the enemy come straight through that area.
