Build Strategy ?

I was wondering, do you have a "build strategy" ?
By that, I mean: " have you calculated, what levels you would like per priority
skills/attributes and what levels you could live with in those complimentary skills".
I read posts here before/after playing, trying to soak in your expertise.
Plus, I have prinouts of all the posts/PM sent to threads/PM.
I'm hoping some rubs off on me
I know everyone has a favorite build.
I'm sure you've exhausted all ideas on how to maximize it etc ....
For example, my build is dictated by my game-playing-ability
I like ranged/bow + melee distance/spear ... use magic skills to compliment them
After a little playing/re-do's (LOL), I'm wondering if leveling up really high is counter-productive.
I feel as with my spellcaster(... prior game), which by games end, turned into a melee fighter using a wakazashi with absorb health, my new character will not use a bow and rely on the spear + enchant(... damage STR; absorb health; fortify attack)
Seems, the higher I level, the more health points the enemies receive ?
So, I was thinking(... not my strong suit): " maybe put some MINOR skills in MISC".
Then, say put BLUNT in minor.
Juice up the ebony staff.
Before leveling(... starting at 0/10), buy 10pts in a neccesary MISC skill ... won't affect character level
Ebony staff your way up to the next level OR buy 10pts in a MAJOR/MINOR skill ... level up
Go buy 10pts in another neccesary MISC.
Would this not, in effect, give you more bang for you leveling up buck ?
Get your skills + attributes up without your character level going through the roof
Thus, keeping your character level down/maximized.
Am I making any sense
Or, do you just put your needed skills in MAJOR/MINOR.
Then play the game and let it dictate what you skills raise and when you raise them ?
I don't know what levels my magic(...complimentary) skills should be.
So, I'm guessing I'll over level; again.
Guess I'm trying to find that sweet-spot-build-strategy.
Seems, I might be better off putting some in MISC; just don't know which ones = I'm sure after more playing things will become clear ?
Did not see a philisophical thread on builds ... I know there is no "one way" to build a character
Just wondering, if there is a "best way" to build one.
You don't have to write a thesis if you have figured out "what works best".
Even if you don't play as I, I can still get the nuance/gist of your thinking
I see many threads on gear/weapons/ some strategy, but none have delved into the basic tennants of maximizing a build.
I hope this post is appropriate ... not been covered
Maybe, it's to complicated to explain ?
Best left to each of us as we replay using our favorite character ?
If the thread has already been done, just close it.
If it's not something that can be explained, just say so.
Was just thinking(... probably over thinking) ... somtimes, that's not good (LOL)
