Odd problem; I'm not sure is it a tech problem, but... I'm playing a Malkavian. Up 'til now, I've purely increased melee/unarmed.
Now I'm in Hollywood, and decided to increase Firearms from zero, except I can't. Click on the first radio button doesn't do anything, and the points needed value shows up as a dash rather than the usual number.
*MINOR SPOILER*
I just did the quest for Romero (http://www.gamebanshee.com/vampireblood ... romero.php) upon which I requested the Firearm stat increase as my reward.
The message "Stats Increased" appeared, but when I subsequently checked my character sheet, my Firearms skills is still at zero.

histories can be interesting. if you check all of them, there are one or two with some advantages over the vanilla category. if you have particular styles of play and rarely use XYZ, then you can choose a history that gives a bonus to A or B and a penalty to something you don't use anyway.

Yep; it's interesting to play the character knowing that that I can never really use firearms effectively. I've just reached Chinatown, with 8 in both Melee and Unarmed and with an Obfuscate level of 3, after having avoided violence for much of the game, it was great fun kicking loose there: sliding invisibly through the massage house there, breaking necks left, right and centre. (Although was is seemingly an engine limitation means you can't attack from behind a character who is sitting down! Oh well, back to the old katana....)Celacena wrote:histories can be interesting. if you check all of them, there are one or two with some advantages over the vanilla category. if you have particular styles of play and rarely use XYZ, then you can choose a history that gives a bonus to A or B and a penalty to something you don't use anyway.
