Hello, I'm new to Baldur's Gate. I've been playing for about 3 weeks now. And don't understand why I can learn 5th and 6th level spells but cannot use them? What do I need to do to be able to cast these spells that are in my mage book.
To cast spells you need to be of a high enough level. Unless you use the experience cap remover there are a few spells that you will never get to cast other than from reading scrolls until you get to BG2. These are such spells as Cloudkill. Therefore, unless you use the cap remover, it is a waste of a scroll to learn such spells.
Disregard Curry's information as it only applies for v3.0+ rules and the entire BG series is 2E. As Grimwald stated, you need to be a high enough level to cast them. Without Tales of the Sword Coast expansion the highest you'll be able to go is fourth level spells.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
I would like to retract my previous post due to a massive brain-fart. I had Dynaheir and I now remember being able to use CK and a certain summoning spell which was lvl 5. Nevermind my previous statement, lol...
