Have you looked at our walkthrough? You don't actually need to kill the archer, although he's worth a bunch of experience.

fire sprouts trial...no clear objective

what the heck you supposed to do to get through this last trial ..the walkthrough states no objective ...other than get ready to fight...is that it ?just battle till something happens?i'm in a pickle here ..down to 11health and 10major health potions

First rule for that trial is to not overwrite your saves in the chamber. If you save I think the trial neverends. Edit: to clarify it only neverends if its saved in the 4th trial...you can save during 123

So after the 3rd trial with the walkways and the duel with the ancient save your game and DO NOT OVERWRITE IT

Now fight in the 4th trial. Kill every wave of enemy. Don't worry about the ancient mage. He's mega hard to kill and you don't need to plus he's worth less xp than the other ancients.

If you are standing on a teleporter you are preventing the final wave of guys from coming through that porter so stand aside (though its smart to limit the rate of enemies by standing on one at first)

Now everyone is dead (except maybe the mage?) eventually you can go over to the sides and the elevators come down. One elevator leads to one of the best bows in the game so get that first. The other televator leads up to the exit.

Do your self a favor and print a copy of each walk through (not just the main walk through) as you come to them. A lot better than trying to rely on memory when you are hyped up in the came.
It would be good if the wallk throughs where a bit more printer friendly. I had to play around with the prefrences a bit to get it right. (Hint, SWCarter)

Sounds to me like you have rushed your character through, find a spot to do some character leveling. Moon beasts are good. Dragons can be it you can live long enough.
SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!! Losing loads of XP because you are dying.
