Direct 3d and drawings and all that stuff that mess up BG 1 on evil machines

Post by KoreeGahn »

Well... So i installed BG on my new monster of a machine, and was looking forward to play through BG for the 1394325'th time, but what on earth is it i see? As soon as i go into my inventory there are all these black "shadows" around my gear and not to mention the buttons like ; talk, formations etc etc, you get the picture... I remember having this problem a while back when i played tutu version, but i worked that out by going into configurations and turning on direct drawing or direct 3d or something, but as you know you can't do such things on the pure BG version, so does that mean im stuck with those black shades throughout the game? I remember reading somewhere that this issue was because of the drivers of some of those nasty evil G'cards ( as in those expensive high perfomance ones ;) ) But to tell the truth i am not very familiar with my G'card and its drivers, and im not about to go change something that will mess up everything just to try and make those shades go away, I CAN still see my char and party members fine, but the shades ARE annoying though!

I use a "640 MB Sparkle GeF 8800 GTS DDR3 PCI-E" G'card

Wow, that many times? Okay, for your problem, have you tried to downgrade your current drivers to the older ones? Had to do this when I played Beyond Good & Evil because the massive lag that occurs whenever I'm travelling on water.

And yes, I agree with you about Nvidia drivers. They're not flexible. Older games have problems running on newer drivers and I noticed this when playing the aforementioned game.

Yes I did indeed think about downing my drivers, but as i said that will end up messing up more than it helps, BG is not the only game i play, and some of the other games require me to have latest drivers :)

Guess i could downgrade/upgrade each time, but seriously... There must be another way than this! :D

Yes, there is... TuTu... :D

Seriously, as the BG is very old game, and your computer is brand new (or so I gathered), it would demand at least small miracle to get it work without TuTu. And, as you said, last time you were able to fix the problem with TuTu. Also, I think you would end up installing it anyway, as pure BG is rather horrible to play with new computer (and high resolutions and big screen). I tried once, and got headache from it.

So, as TuTu surely fixes your problem, I recommend using it again.

The whole idea of installing and playing was exactly to play the old pure version, no mods of any kind, pure BG :) Curse me for beeing nostalgic i guess, but to say again, im NOT installing tutu, atleast not yet, have it on the comp, but wanna go through the game first without any mods :D

Then I think you must accept some strangenes in graphics, unless you manage to dig up one computer old enough for that game...
