Yrden sign - any successful users?

Post by Claudius »

Anyone use Yrden sign and how do they do it? It seems like a trap but I can't see where I have layed it plus if I go to the trouble of laying a trap it better be pretty nasty. I mean you would expect to only lay traps for something nasty that you spied and not just wandering monsters - which spawn aplenty.

Also I thought of using it amidst combat and just dropping it at the opponents feat. Perhaps as a kiting maneuvre. Run to make space. Drop Yrden. Run around untill it triggers rinse and repeat. It seems it would be a waste to have all those secondary abilities (poison pain etc) and have it totally useless.

Any thoughts?
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

When you cast it you "draw" a trap on the ground. The trap should be visible to you showing as many small spikes pointing out from the ground.
When a monster walks into it, they'll can be affected by the effect of the trap.

I accidental used it to kill off a beggar in the slums as I had that sign active and not the fire one. So I cast the trap instead and watched a hapless beggar move into the trap, get effected by Pain and then die. :o

I've not used it much outside this, but it appears to be a more tactical sign, but I do not have many (tested) strategies for it.

Thanks Xandax

I have experimented a little and I found that it is a good sign from a tactical point of view when you can prepare for a battle. It doesn't just hit once but continually reams its opponent untill the charges are gone. It also usually? knocks them back so it is good combo with other signs. Use Yrden first then switch to another sign. Yrden keeps them occupied while you blast away with another sign. Its a little hard to use sword I think in combo because you have a tendancy to pursue them in your aggression (because you are being hit too).

Note: this is just based on I II and two charge up levels along with longer duration skills. Also I found this effective in Chapter 2 clearing out a nest fiends that I had trouble with untill that level up (in conjuction with 1 at a time luring and a swallow/tawny owl).

Edit: Here's another example SPOOILEEER WArning

I had 3 Int Yrden II Aprentice and a fully charged Yrden wounded the golem so much that my first combat sequence killed the golem (albeit with wolf) ...medium difficulty

Anyhow this game isn't so hard that your screwed if you take something questionable (so far) My goal is to be a somewhat magic user just because you really can't tell if your sword secondary skills are triggering etc
