I think this is a CE only extra.. so hopefully that isn't your problem, anyway..

The thief in question runs under the bridge - then runs back and forth under that bridge a few times before disappearing/fading away.

If you initiate dialog with him then he talks about the Relic, treasure, and the gem to get to the queen.. He does NOT talk about giving you the key.

Just before he starts to "fade away" UNDER THE BRIDGE - IF you are standing there then he usually gives you the key *without* a dialog. (..this is similar to the guards thanking you for escorting them to the temple's exit door.)

So..

Basically do this:

1. Stand under the bridge (middle of it) and wait.
2. Check your inventory for a "Demon key" after he disappears.

The thief should give you the key in all versions of the game. But for some reason he sometimes doesn't.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."
