ive bought the ranmans meditations from the dorf in the house of gems for my monk but uh, he cant equip it... hes an elf monk but i thought the only size issues in the game dealt with small races. i get a "class cant equip or wrong size" message. anyone have any insight on this?

The book does not require being equipped. The monk merely having it in his or her backpack is enough. If you do this and do not notice a change in damage, remember two things: The book is only effective for unarmed combat and the book provides a damage multiplier which does not stack with others. (ie the massive club along with the book does not give you a x4 modifier, but leaves you with the original x2.)
My monk, unarmed with this book, does 40-45 damage per strike.
