Hi all.
I'm just starting Shivering Isles and was hoping to get some thoughts on whether a stealth-based archer character is strong enough for the combat in this new land. She's level 23 and did the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quests. I've noted that there seems to be a lot more combat to deal with than she's used to so I'm wondering if I'd be better served by going back to an old fighter-type character who is level 30 and did the main, arena and fighters guild quests. I've also always meant to do a pure mage character so I could start a brand new mage character, do the mage guild quests (which I've only done up to getting the staff) and then come back to SI. I love what I've seen in Shivering Isles so far.
Also, does anyone know if the Knights of the Nine quest is included with the SI expansion or is that only by download or as part of the GOTY edition?
Thanks for your help!

A stealth based char doing the Isles xpac works just as well as a standard melee. Just make sure your sneak skill is fairly high for good kills. I'm lvl 28 and currently playing through it just to find lighter gear & to bring my sneak skill up more so I can start the Dark Brotherhood / TG.
As for the Knights of the nine, you can either get it through download or purchase a later version of the game with both the Shivering Isles/Knights of the Nine plug-ins. But both are separate if you download.

''White light beams through darkness, beset by immense haze over a few seconds followed by a loud cacophony. Motionless, the repercussion of your action strikes your feebled mind and senses. Still dazed, the intensity lingers that follows after tripping over your own sonic blind trap.''
Thanks!
Thanks for the help Mz_Trixter. I initially found strolling around the countryside to be near suicidal but now that I'm into the quests and a little more acclimated things are going fine again. Having a few establed fast-travel markers on the map helps too. I'm still amazed at how original the quests have been so far.
