i am a mage who plans to go sorcerer, wizard, and i wanted to be an enchantress as my second teir class but i didn't talk to Lady Loriea after i saved her and missed out. i was thinking about going for trikster for the learning bonus in nether magic, or i was thinking about going for a celestial or monk for the channel skill. i am playing ce edition and was wondering if channel works properly and if it is worth getting. (or if there is any other place to talk to lady loriea.)
also if i raise my arcane above the level of the spell i am using, i.e., if i raise it to level 5 or higher for a level 4 spell, does the damage for th e spell increase?
Help with class choices.
Definitely. Spell damage and duration increase significantly...so you will want to push your Arcane skill as high as you can.also if i raise my arcane above the level of the spell i am using, i.e., if i raise it to level 5 or higher for a level 4 spell, does the damage for th e spell increase?
As far as which class to choose...
I prefer Paladin or Celestial. My favorite combination is Wizard/Paladin. The Lightning and Solar Ray spells make nice backup attack spells (for weaker creatures), plus the increased duration on the various defensive spells makes it worthwhile to raise the Celestial Magic skill. Furthermore, I think that the Rune spell Shards of Stone is one of the best offensive spells in the game (well over 100 points of damage at 10+ ranks in Rune Magic)!
The Channel skill does work, though you will need at least 7+ ranks to really see a difference.
My general rule for spending adv points on magic skills is to buy whichever skill is cheaper at the moment. Following this rule, you will end up with about a 1.5-1 ratio of skill ranks in Arcane/Scribe to all your other magic skills.
For my style of play, Nether Magic is the least useful. I basically just use it for summoning spells and the occasional Blade of Baal. But I could do just as well without ever using it, so I never consider Nether bonuses when picking a class.
My bread and butter spells are Zap, Blast Nova, Fire Burst, Whirlwind, Lightning, Solar Ray (for little annoying critters), and Shards of Stone. I try to get at least 30 charges of each of those (without manipulating the messed up economics). With that many charges, then 10+ ranks of Scribe/Channel should be able to keep up with your usage if you don't rely too much on any single spell.

like dcinroc said nether isnt all that great (most of the spells dont even work). i have made a monk/wizard and now regret not having the heavy armor, heavy shield, and heavy weapon skills. the skill ninjutsu basically sucks i have it at lvl 10 and with a light weapon skill of 7(for wizard class) i can do 10-20 points with a junk medium weapon than with ninjutsu. i would also suggest that you exploit the messed up economics as they make the game a lot easier. i exploited the economic glitch and now carry at least 1k of my main spells (blast nova, cataclysm, fire ball, fire burst, and ice ball). i do not worry about fire nova freeze or ice nova as the cool down it way too long and can get you into a lot of trouble when enemies dont die. if you get arcaine magic to 26 and spell fire to 10 with 70 agility you can cast 4 blast nova's to 1 fire nova. cataclysm is for when your in a hurry (1 or 2 hit kill for most bosses). if the are immune to arcaine magic or resist fire a lot i use the shards of stone. i have seen a 181dmg done to a gangrenous worm with lvl 11rune magic (not sure if spellfire helps rune magic).jeffg926 wrote:i am a mage who plans to go sorcerer, wizard, and i wanted to be an enchantress as my second teir class but i didn't talk to Lady Loriea after i saved her and missed out. i was thinking about going for trikster for the learning bonus in nether magic, or i was thinking about going for a celestial or monk for the channel skill. i am playing ce edition and was wondering if channel works properly and if it is worth getting.
