How far can you move in the overland map? (Newbie)

Post by cureless »

Hi guys.

I got the game yesterday and was able to play it for a very little while. However, I had a question, how far down can you go in the overland map?

Somehow, the graphics seem to suggest you can go under the "stone bridges", but I didn't figure out how. Maybe I don't know what I'm seeing or maybe it's a bug, or maybe I haven't played around with it enough. I'll fiddle around more when I get home today.

Any suggestions/answers/comments/insults?

On the overland map, you can only go so far. You can go under bridges, but they will end at a wall not far south... look at the map to see where the boundaries are: in fact, it is always a good idea to be checking your map during play. You'll be able to see the edges of a dungeon (and not waste time searching for non-existent secret doors) or the areas you may have missed.

On the initial overland map, the boundaries are pretty much thus:

WEST: across the bridge at the cave area.
EAST: at the Tumbledown door.
NORTH: at Nottle's wagon.
SOUTH: the wall where the bridge ends.

Remember that some areas are not available right away. You may see giant wooden doors or walls that appear and disappear as you move... you cannot move past any area so designated. Just keep your eye on that movement icon to see where you can and cannot go.

the initial overland you move in is about a tenth of the total map.

take a look at a screenie on the official site.

i have a map with my CE and the area you start in has equivalent sized areas to the east and west. directly south is about 4 times it's size and southwest and southeast are about double.

look at it this way. what you start off in is totally, completely puny compared to when you end the game.

::smiles:: so you got LOTS to look forward to.
