improved abazigal, 3x sorc

Post by Thrifalas »

I'm trying out this new thing, playing through the game as a f/t/m with three sorcs as backup. I started fresh out of ToB so no Vecna or other valuable items for me. :(

I'm stuck at the improved abazigal fight. Since my damage is pretty low and I lack fighters their healing and wingclip spells is too devestating. If I focus on taking out the wyverns and the second dragon I don't have enough firepower to kill Abazigal, and if I focus on him I don't have enough time take him down.

Does anyone know if wing clip can be spell immunity:ed?

The 3 sorcs is definately overpowered in other fights; improved demogorgon died the second he showed himself to 3 chain contingencies with dispells/lower resists followed by 3 contingencies all loaded with ADHW and some energy blades. ^^

However, such tactics doesn't work on Abazigal since he has two stages of himself, plus a lot of annoying small fries and a friendly dragon. :(

Anyone has any tips on how to fight him with arcane spells (a LOT!) only? :o

hi Thrifalas,
i have not played any mods yet, but one thing i can think of now is lower resistance*4 -> greater malison -> Maze/Imprisonment on one of the dragons. i am not sure if dragons can be mazed or imprisoned, but i think it is worth a try...
will let you know if i think of something else

Well with 3 sorc. you should definetly have plenty of firepower and with Time Stop + Imp. Al. you will have plenty of time to deliver it (even without Vecna). Planetars (and Mordy+Undead too) will be very helpful to keep at bait Abaz. minions while you deal with him. Remember that if you just stay still when you get in the room no enemies are on sight, so you can cast summons freely (you should already be buffed up before start).
You complain that once you finished with the first stage you already used most of your good spell .... ever though to use P.I.? With 3 P.I. you can unload your full arsenal to the first stage, new P.I. when killed the first a take down second stage, full arsenal to obliterate remaining minions.
Regarding your PC: very powerfull meleer -> fully twinked + fully buffed+ Imp. alacrity from sorc. + ASSASSINATION (did you select a whole bunch of these didn't you?) and you will take down first stage+minions quite easly.

Have a sorcerer tank with Stoneskin + Improved Haste + Chain Contingency/SPell Trigger (Tensor's Transformation) + Improved Haste + Shapechange (GWW).

Have another debuff or summon planetars and drop offensive spells. Cast through simulacarums and projected images. Try Imprisoning one of the dragons and releasing it later, after the other is done.

First of all, I don't use any cheese at all, so I neither have more than one assassination and I won't trigger Tensers or anything of that kind.

Ah yeah, P.I. I think I have that spell. ^^ If not, I've only myself to blame. it'd be the perfect move for this battle.

Well I don't consider the use of Contingency (memorized before the battle)with tenser and use of Shapeshifting cheese, as for Assassination I haven't seen anywhere that you can select that ability only one time, in fact the game aloud you to select it as many times you like. In any case I wouldn't use a sorc as a tank with tenser, cause you'll lose all his spelcasting which is what makes sorc. powerhouse, use summon and your PC to tank and let sorcs do their job, and remember that in this battle cause you are heavy in sorcs/mage P:I:+Time stop is the way to go, if you time you time stops right the 3 P.I. can cast them sequentially in turn, so once the first is finished the second starts till the depletion of spells, then let the P.I. be killed, recast them and continue.

It's borderline of cheese but I wouldn't mind using it. I do, however, consider triggering multiple Tensers for stackable bonuses overly cheesy.

Assassination is pickable once for a pure thief class and multiple times for multi/dual-classes. It's only supposed to be pickable once.

I've kind of quit the tri-sorc playthrough anyhow, started playing other games and when I return to BG I'll prolly play something else. Tripple sorc was quite fun though, even without any items they're real powerhouses. ^^
