Naughty use of UAI

Post by Celacena »

just a qucik one - tonight it occured to me that the Holy Symbol of a cleric confers +1 STR, so if you have a thief with UAI and take the symbol, kick Vicky out of the party and have her back - you can have seemingly useless holy symbols to boost STR. in ToB with the upgraded sword that gives 22 STR when equiped, that means my PC has STR 24 AND with the cloak of M also available - I have a ridiculous THAC0 with both hands.

that trick might be available in SoA even though getting to UAI is not easy.

Yep, I usually use it for Assassins, as they need every bit of THAC0, except that I use the Girdle of Fire Giant strength instead, as the Staff of the Ram +6 is better for backstabbing than Angurvadal +5. Although you do have to ask, is this really better than the second Ring of Gaxx?

playing it straight to ToB - you lose lots of items that you'd like ot have - the RoG being one.

I haven't been using the staff as I have +++ in staves instead of +++++ in longsword - although the SotR is awesome when wielded in combat, I like the Answerer +4 as a BS weapon - it does nasty things to MR creatures.

I passed on the STR girdle to Sarevok, who is pretty nifty with the Ravager +6 - although it seems that some enemies are immune to the vorpal effects, which is unfair.

Beside from giving STR, they also provide 5% MR which makes them quite nifty for rogues. I tried putting up as many magical defenses on a fighter/rogue as possible once, without any cheese (such as 2x Gaxx), and I hit 90% MR+Belt of inertial barrier+cloak of mirroring and still got 25 STR. :)

UAI is one of the things that makes the game so very funny. Endless possibilities. ;]
