I was looting a house and was caught. the town gaurds where called and i killed them. I didn't lower my reputation. is this ok, can you kill the town gaurds when they are called on you or did i just get lucky that my reputation wasn't affected?

Sometimes they won't affect your reputation, however there are times they will. Killing guards on the street often result in repercussions.
