Favored Soul for MotB?
I'm thinking of building an Aasimar Favoured Soul for MotB, but a couple of questions. First, are there NPC Favored Souls in the game? Is FS a fun class? And, most importantly, what should I couple it with?
IMO its the best overall class in the game.
NO FS's in-game.
20 levels of FS
5 levels of FB (Frenzied Berserker)
4 levels of Paladin
1 level of Warlock (..and the Invocation: The Dark Ones Own Luck)
Because an Aasimar's favored class is Paladin you don't have to worry about an xp penalty. But you will have to worry about it for your 1 level of Warlock - effectivly meaning that you shouldn't tack-on your 1 level of Warlock until after having all your FS levels. Additionally the Warlock will require a change in alignment from Lawful to Chaotic. The FB will require an alignment change from Lawful to Non-Lawful. (..the FB doesn't count either because its a prestige class).
Your 1st class should be FS.
Forget about Wisdom (I believe that even for saves the FS's still rely on Charisma).
Instead focus on Charisma and Strength. Figure on starting values to be about 18 and 17 respectively (or 19 and 16).
You'll need both at 21 to get Epic Divine Might.
Your weapon focus and deity should be a two-handed weapon, probably a great sword. Play with the deity section to see which one will provide that at character creation.
The FB class is for two-handed weapon damage for Empowered Power Attack - which with Improved Power Attack adds 20 damage per hit.
Necessary feats are:
Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave.
Important feats are:
Improved Power Attack, Divine Might, Epic Divine Might, Extra Turning.
Add-in your 2 levels of Paladin for your first charisma-based save early in the build.
IF you want a more melee oriented character early then also add-in all 5 levels of FB early in the build.
IF you want a more magic attack based character then skip the FB levels until latter and go with FS to level 20.
The character is fun with both melee and magic.
Make sure to coincide your 4th level Paladin class with at least one EPIC feat selection character level (and if possible, preferably 2). Again, this is when you are trying to get Divine Might and Epic Divine Might.
ALTERNATIVELY:
Consider an "Evil" character..
20 Levels of FS
5 Levels of FB
3 Levels of *Blackguard*
1 Level of Warlock
1 Level - class of your choice from the above.
This character makes more "sense" both from a perspective of in-game play for MOTB, and considering the need for correct alignments (..Evil and Non-Lawful would do it with no alignment changes needed.)
