Jedi Robes: +8 DEX max?

Post by Klorox »

Does this mean I'm actually better off not increasing my DEX that high? I'm very surprised robes have a DEX limit!

Above 26 DEX? You'd be hard pressed to reach that.

It would still require a high DEX in order to reach that +8 on the armor's description. It is refering to 8 modifiers from dexterity. It would require 26 dexterity to get 8 modifiers. Meaning that with the armor, you will recieve the +2 defense the armor normally gives and up to +8 defense from your dexterity modifiers. Even if you have 30 DEX and 10 modifiers from it, 8 is all that will be counted while wearing the armor.

However, unlike light/medium/heavy armor, robes appear to be glitched. Despite the description, robes do not have a DEX limit. So if you can get 34 DEX, then you will recieve the +2 defense that the robe normally gives and another +12 defense from modifiers. I normally choose to not raise my dexterity past 26, because I do not want to take advantage of bugs. Though, I also note that it may not be a bug, because as you said, it is hard to believe that robes would have a DEX limit.

I should also point out that even if there was a limit on robes, increasing your DEX could still help you out. In the old-school Star Wars Pen-and-Paper (PnP) RPG, there is a feat which allows you to use your DEX stat instead of your STR stat to affect your attack value while using lightsabers. In Kotor, this feat is passive and depending on which stat is higher, STR or DEX, that will be the stat used to determine your attack value. Regardless, strength will still affect your damage while dexterity will still affect your defense. This holds true only for lightsabers and not other melee weapons.

I suppose that best way to determine if the robes have a glitched DEX limit or if they simply never were meant to have a DEX limit, is to see if the old-school Star Wars Pen-and-Paper (PnP) RPG has a limit on robes. Kotor is based on that RPG after all. I've never thought to check it out until now. I will look around for the answer and edit it into this post.
