Hey guys,
I have finished the OC a few times, now I have motb, but I lost my saves from OC. So I went ahead and leveled up a guy to 18 and I'm getting destroyed, barely surviving, multiple reloads for each encounter. Is it the 2 level difference? I've done OC plenty of times with no problems at all, cant understand why this is so hard.
Should I redo the campaign for the extra 2 levels and the gear?
also this is on normal mode, if I have to drop to easy, something is seriously wrong.
Or maybe it's the build I went with 6/10/2 Weapon Master?
MotB is hard as hell

There are many opponents in MotB which are immune to critical hits, so weapon master is not a good choice imo. If I remember correctly, you dont continue with your char to MotB, you have to import it to use it. The equipment would help you but dont know if it is worth playing through OC.
If you are early on, you should check some of the builds here.

Well, motb wasn't really made to be a cake walk. So, having a character in the previous OC lvled has high as possible with full gear would make some difference on how you fair in the Xp. But it could also be strategy since the 'spirit' bar was put in. So summing it all up, its pretty much a combo of all 3. lvl, gear & strategy.
& like Soontir mentioned, most of the creatures are immune to crit. hits - Some use in spells would definitely help out there. just beware of the Bar. Its in place to keep casters from resting carelessly.

i made a superchar in bg2, the game was so easy it was not even worth playing. i installed ToB and well, lookie here, +3 weapons, archmages, admentine golems, friggin ancient dragons with friggin bhaal powers!
i guess the same can be said for MoTB of nwn2. the only thing is that SoU and HotU of NWN(1) weren't so hard... so why motb would be so problematic is a little out of their way.

Personaly, I thought MotB on hardcore was easy but I guess I just made a good character . Anyways, a high armor class is key to your survival(mine stayed between 45-52 throughout MotB) Also, the gauntlets of haste you buy in Blacklake for about 200k are nice. But If you want a build, I have an untested but likely good one here:
Fighter:3 Proficiency Feats
Bard:7 Spells in light armor(Mithril armor, anyone?), unlocks RDD
RDD:10 Major stat boosts
WM:10 Adds to melle skills
*edit:A build similar to this is already on NWN2 wiki*
I know it seems.... odd but it's based off of the character that went through all of MotB while only dying once(damn Myrkulites ) Hope this helped.

Does one have to import one's earlier character if one wants to continue with him/her?
I've just ordered MotB (I know I'm slow, I'm going by Computer Savings Time) and started wondering how much work I'm in for.
