Why BG3 would serve best as a prequal. (kinda bg 1/2 spoilers)

Post by Linkamus »

The potential for an epic story, and epic ending, and just an overall Baldur's gate feel would best come from a prequal. Think about the possibilities.

NPC's - You have Gorian, Elminster, Khalid, jahera, that could all be playable npc's with rich dialog and story that further expand on stories only briefly eluded to in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.

Who do you think the end boss would be? Mortal Bhaal... You've yet to to fight actual Bhaal in a baldur's gate game, and how fitting would it be to end baldur's gate 3, dropping mortal bhaal to his knees, with him saying in his last breath, something like "You fool! You think I did not forsee this?? My children are many, and my essense will live on!!!"

Also didn't baldur's gate 1 talk about gorion being lovers with your characters real mom at one point? With bhaal sleeping with her, and gorion being her lover, that could make for some great npc drama/story/dialog.

Anyways, if this has all been said before, I apologize, i don't frequent this forum. But I wanted to come here and throw in my opinion on how I think Baldur's Gate 3 should pan out.

I would also say that BG3 would be best off using 2nd edition rules.. not 3rd or 4th. And also keep the game in 2d!!! If it has to be in 3d, it better be very polished, and be inspired by a Titan Quest'ish look.

This is just my personal opinion, and a totally unrealistic stand to take but as I have said here before, if its not the "charname" that I played in the original games then it loses 99% of that "Baldurs Gate" feel for me. I know the story ended, but the problem is the story and my own character were so intertwined that a return to anything other than that doesnt entice me in the least - Case in point, those ridiculous so-called "Baldurs Gate" hack-n-slash console games.

What was "briefly" expanded on in Baldurs Gate told us that Khalid and Jaheira had nothing to do with the Bhaalspawn business, and while Gorion did it was only "briefly".

Im not a Forgotten Realms buff, but even I know that Bhaal was killed by Cyric with Godsbane (the God Mask). Sorry to shoot down your dramatic idea, but it loses its drama when its rewriting that which was already established.

Yes, Baldurs Gate did have Gorion mention that he was a friend and lover of the protagonists mother. However, Gorion lied. He never knew your mother - he only killed her. It was revealed your mother was a priestess of Bhaal who was happy to be chosen by her lord. Gorion killed her and took you before she could sacrifice you, after he (and Im assuming his meddling Harper friends) attacked the place you were to be sacrificed along with many other Bhaalspawn children.

Given that WOTC have butchered the realms as it was known, I highly doubt they would allow a return to the time before they poisoned it. It wouldnt strike me as their style.

I dont know why Im posting this though, as I said already my ideal return to the original character is unreasonable (since it finished) but thats the way I liked it, so I dont particularly care for talks of an unrelated "sequel" or prequel.

Eh, I guess I don't know enough about the story. Thanks for that info.

Edit: Another thing.. Where do you get all this info? I don't remember reading most of that stuff in game. Is it in the novel trilogy? I've only read the first book.

Most of this info is explained in the text and dialog of the entire Baldur's Gate Saga.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
