Once you tear your eyes away from the dungeon content however, the world itself changes, notably as you achieve the three significant milestone events on the island. This is an ingenious way of extending longetivity, as water levels will rise and fall, exposing new terrain, new chests, and new routes through the weather-harassed landscape.Strategy Informer goes with an 8.2/10.
The landscape itself builds on the bloom-infested Albion, but is more subdued and subtle this time. Less sunlight, and a lot more effort put into textures that we didn't find over the pond. Ice is a key example, fully reflective and dependent on camera angle to generate said effect. It's a great example of how Lionhead have really taken a lot of the feedback to heart and are pouring themselves into giving back to the community. Well, for 800 Microsoft Points ($10), anyway.
In short, for what is only a few dollars, Euros or pounds, I think Knothole Island is a must for any Fable II fan. It brings you back to that relaxed, almost serene world. You remember: the one with the relaxing music and affable - if not a bit silly - townsfolk. The one where the sun goes down and reflects off the water as you stand there moving the camera and watching the god rays dance around as your dog lies patiently by your side, waiting for your next move. Magic.Gameplanet gives it an 8.5/10.
There are certainly a number of reasons that this pack is worthwhile, not to mention that it is a wonderful way to undo some of your previous decisions which you may have regretted...And Dose.ca scores it a 7.5/10.
The quests themselves are possibly the main motivation for heading to the island, and they will give you around two hours of gameplay, depending on how you pace yourself. You will be faced with a range of puzzles and have to think fast a lot of the time. In total the DLC does add several good hours to the game, and is well worth the price tag, even if it just gets you back into Fable II.
It certainly would have been nice to have more than three quests, and perhaps some new side quests, but at 800 points it isn't a bad deal. All in all we really hope this is just the first of several DLC packs, as it really is an amusing addition to what we already felt was a great game. If you still have Fable II sitting at home, there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't pick this up!
While never terrible, Knothole Island feels a little empty. The quests in Fable II had this tendency but the world never felt that way. In Knothole Island, the quests and the island feel pretty anemic. The dungeons are pretty bare of enemies and the island's denizens (save the quest-instigating Chieftain) are pretty useless overall. Maybe the DLC could have been held back a bit and the island developed to the point of having several quests and a few interesting characters? Sort of how in Fable II you would finish a quest and it would open up others that were only tangentially related.
