With a name like Guild Wars, one would expect that a large focus would be put on player versus player or guild versus guild combat. This is true as ArenaNet doesn't want its players spending most of their time focused on leveling up. For example, traveling in the game is as simple as bringing up the world map and clicking on an area that you've unlocked or have completed. This feature alone speeds up the playing process as you spend no time at all traveling to different areas, except when in missions. PvP combat, during this event, contained an arena where you are assigned to a team of eight random players and fight against another random player team. If your team wins, it'll move on and fight against another, and it goes on and on. This seemed to be just for kicks and to give players a concept on strategies and what works well against certain classes.
