The Koalition, 7/10.
Overall the game is a pretty nice value for the buck, so give it a try if that last paragraph above sounds okay. Personally, I had a pretty decent time, having not played a DeathSpank game before, and I will be keeping my eye on this series. If you have played this or other DeathSpank games, let us know what you think in the comments below!
The Paranoid Gamer, 5/10.
Ultimately whilst playing this game I had a love/hate relationship with it. I warmed to the world of Spanktopia through its narrative and character, but then at the same time I felt dis-connected by the dull combat and uninspired cliché gameplay.
While I would find it hard to recommend this game to new players, if you enjoyed the first two I expect you'd like this one too.
Ready Up, 7/10.
The combat system is a bit iffy, but it's made up for with humour, puzzles and great graphics. It is more of the same, though. If you were a fan of the first 2 two I would recommend this. If you haven't played the first two you might want to start with them as there are a lot of familiar faces and nods.
Mash Those Buttons, 3.7/5.
The Baconing is a worthwhile purchase for fans of hack and slash games, especially those who enjoy lots of loot. I did not find many problems with it, and those that I did find felt minuscule. The game was often too linear feeling with invisible walls popping up everywhere like the plague. I do not like being restrained in a game; I enjoy exploring. Also, some of the dialogue was a little cheesy. I know the game is supposed to be a little ridiculous, but that does not mean that we have to deal with dialogue that makes us shake our heads in shame. Besides all of the problems, this is still a worthwhile game to play. If you are new to the series, you will likely enjoy this game. Players of previous games in the series may want to try it first as it seems like the type of game that may give you the (haven't I played this before?) feeling.
Blistered Thumbs, 7/10.
DeathSpank's third bout on this console generation is a bit of a short one. Clocking in at about 7 hours for fifteen dollars, it is obvious that there are games that offer more for less. There are some definite problems with this series that has gone unchecked since the beginning, and those same problems seem to be the only things holding it back. However, I honestly don't think that you'll find a funnier video game however, as the actions of DeathSpank and the people around you outperforms everything in the medium of video game entertainment. The protagonist for the downtrodden even gets a CSI Miami joke in with perfect timing, and even gets shades while a coverband performs a loose cover of The Who's (Won't get fooled again).
And don't mind the orphans. Everyone knows they're just future criminals.
Neocrisis, 7.5/10.
The Baconing is a fun and diverse title with lots of humor to enjoy. I would've liked weapons to feel more powerful than they do, and the game will be difficult even in easy mode for those who are new to the series. It can fall into boring repetition at times, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn't played a DeathSpank game, and to those who loved previous installments.
