2K Games has published a new trailer for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, another Borderlands title set between Borderlands 1 and 2 developed by 2K Australia (in close collaboration with Gearbox) for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, which does a fairly good job at explaining the title's proposition:
The trailer did have the side effect of reminding me how much I loathe the series' humor, but perhaps that will be different for you.
