November 7th is the so-called N7 Day - the annual date when Mass Effect fans celebrate their favorite series of sci-fi RPGs. And since November 7th, apart from being a callback to the memorable in-game insignia, also happens to be pretty close to Mass Effect's November 20, 2007 release date, it also counts as the series' birthday.
And if you do some quick math, you'll see that 2017 marks a full decade since the original Mass Effect's release, which is quite an impressive milestone. As such, the folks at BioWare have a bunch of events planned for the occasion, including a week's worth of livestreams, a selection of high-quality Mass Effect art, social media giveaways, and an impressive-looking collage of people's favorite moments from Mass Effect: Andromeda.
They've also put together a video that reflects back on the the series. We get to hear the developers, including BioWare's general manager Casey Hudson, talk about the original designs behind Commander Shepard and the iconic Normandy spaceship, the emotional impact the series had on a lot of people, the importance of romances for the series, and more:
And then, there's this short open letter:
This year marks 10 years since the release of Mass Effect. In that time, we’ve made friends, fallen in love, and traveled to new galaxies.
We’ve watched our community grow, as all of you shared your love of this universe, wore your N7 with pride, and told us stories about your Shepard and Ryder.
This N7 day, we’re celebrating how far we’ve all come together, and looking back on a decade of Mass Effect. Check back at www.masseffect.com/n7 next Tuesday, November 7, to see all the great surprises, offers, and giveaways we have in store as we celebrate #teN7.
Thank you for coming with us to the stars and beyond. It’s been a hell of a ride. We can’t wait to see what the future holds.
