Extra Credits, a YouTube channel devoted to the analysis of game design, has published a video on Fallout Shelter. To be more specific, the video tries to analyze the reasons that caused the free-to-play mobile tie-in to be such a huge success not only among casual gamers but also among the "hardcore" crowds.
Sure, part of the reason is that it's a tie-in to what is now an enormously popular videogame series, but the folks at Extra Credits posit the success (and lack of outcry about free-to-play mechanics) is also directly related to the game's lack of PvP:
