The only sign of guidance is a golden "breadcrumb trail" that players can choose to follow to advance the story. They also have the option to turn it off completely and simply wander through the magical environments that the team at Lionhead Studios have created for the follow-up to 2004's Xbox RPG smash hit, Fable.
The object of this, according to Lionhead's head of design - and Fable 2's executive designer - Peter Molyneux, is to immerse the player in the world of Fable 2, by giving them a sense of choice. It's his hope that this will appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers.
"I keep saying; "we've got to make something that people haven't experienced before," he says. "We've got to give them drama and that drama is about giving gamers a world that's very accessible and very easy to approach."
