For the first time ever, there are more online only RPG in the works than stand-alone RPGs. As we head into 2001, the only "major" single player RPGs that are scheduled to be released this year are Sierra/Troika's Arcanum, Sirtech's Wizardry 8, Ion Storm's Anachronox, Bethesda's Morrowind and BioWare's Neverwinter Nights (which has a significant online component) -- and Wizardry 8 doesn't have a publisher and Bethesda has a terrible record of not releasing games on time (and excluding console ports). That's an incredibly reduced list compared to the past several years.
This is part one so expect a little more jubilation in the near future.
