The magic system in Dark Messiah looked far better than any predecessor I've seen. Spells actually look like spells as opposed to a different colored generic magic ball that emits from your hand. It definitely adds a sense of reality and coolness to the magic. You're wielding fire so it should look as such! It does. It was cool to see my hand emitting heat waves as I was about to unleash a fireball, then light my enemy aflame. Gotta love fire! The demo was limited but I was able to use some of the ice abilities, as well. Your enemies will slip and slide on the ice-slick ground or freeze completely if you're close. It's definitely a mechanic I've not seen done well before in a first person setting and it worked quite nicely from what I saw.
