Guild Wars: Factions is a rich, detailed and diverse world with plenty of scope for expansion, and already has me looking forward to seeing Chapter 3 when it comes out. This game can convert even the most ardent Planetsiders (most of my Guild actually) and the fun that both chapters offer is never-ending.

If you're lazy with the wallet, wanting to steer clear of hefty monthly subscriptions to the likes of EverQuest 2 and World of Warcraft, then you might want to give Factions a gander (that's southern speak by us hillbilly gamers). It's not a persistent world, but for the price of nothing per month, you get a gorgeous world that could be considered a work of art. Guild Wars has been one of our most-played games since its initial debut, and this new expansion just proves that both Arena.net and NCSoft are superior when it comes to giving gamers more for their money. This virtual world sucks you in just like every other MMORPG, but without the ridiculous monthly fee.

Ultimately though, it's more of the same, albeit with a new storyline and exotic new setting. With a distinctly Oriental flavour, the visuals genuinely are a joy to behold, and you will occasionally find yourself stopping to take in a sweeping vista, before continuing with whatever errand you're currently running.
Which is essentially what the game boils down to: team up with a few likely sorts and head out into the wide beyond to slaughter monsters, escort envoys, deliver packages or whatever job the powers that be foist upon you. On paper, it might not sound the most thrilling of game experiences, but as the five hours expended appears to confirm, it is mildly compelling, with an unfiddly interface that even the most RPG-phobic clown should be able to manage. Did I say five hours? Make that 15...
