ArenaNet has stated they will make money on expansions instead of charging monthly fees. If Factions is any indication, their business model will continue to revolutionize the MMOG world. If you're a casual gamer who doesn't want to be locked into a traditional MMOG, a PVP lover who wants a game that combines shooter action with RPG elements, or simply a crazed Kung-fu/anime fan looking for a samurai fix, there's a place for you at the emperor's palace.
The second is at Gamecell with an overall score of 9/10:
...whether you like WoW's largely old-fashioned MMO-age, or traditional single-player RPGs, the chances are that Factions, like its parent game, can cater for you generously. Although the PvP can be tough to get into, the game is (being standalone or an add-on to GW) as accommodating to new players as it is to the old. Consequently, Factions is a noble and successful effort and gets a hearty recommendation from me.
The third is at Deeko with an overall score of 8.5/10:
MMOs is a rich experience that a player will continually invest in over a period of time. The biggest problem with MMOs is the steep monthly payments. Considering the monthly investment, regular upkeep of your account is required or it'll be a waste of time and money. The charm with any Guild War title is the absence of monthly fees and knowing that in the event that you do decide to take a break from the game, your account should still be available. All that's needed is a good internet service (Dial up beware!), a decent video and sound card, enough memory, the game and an enthusiasm to play and you're all set. While not as detailed as some of the other MMOs out there, Guild War Factions provides a solid gameplay with great features that can even parallel some of the more known online RPGs.
The fourth is at Cheat Code Central with an overall score of 4.5/5:
When taking a look at its competitors, Guild Wars: Factions will certainly appeal to anyone that has an RPG itch. Anyone that looks at FFXI or WoW and thinks (Where do these people find the time) will be right at home. The level cap at 20 ensure that it is all about strategy, not level grinding. Fairly balanced and sharp looking, it may lack some of the depth of its competitors but it does more than hold its own by providing an exciting competitive combat experience rounded out by impressive visuals on anyone's system and the right MMO aspects sprinkled throughout.
The fifth is at WorthPlaying with an overall score of 9.0/10:
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with what Guild Wars: Factions has to offer. Taking into account the fact that the original release defied my every effort to love and cherish it, the absorbing entertainment offered by this expansion is both surprising and welcome. The combination of setting, graphical tweaks, and additional content have done nothing more than forge the experience into exactly what it should have been from the very beginning. Anyone who was already a fan of Guild Wars no doubt already has this and is in love with it. To all of you reluctant late-adopters, let me say this: Factions is the perfect add-on to use as your starting point. If it can convert a jaded old gamer like myself, imagine what it can do for you!
And the sixth is at DarkZero with an overall score of 8.5/10:
This is a big game, as big as the original with a good 20+ hours in the story mode. The PvP adds potentially endless replay value here and with more expansion packs planned, this is a growing world you will want to remain a part of. Another top class effort, then, that continues to rewrite the rules of the online RPG, and long may it continue.
