In any of the 4 primary zones in the game, there are large Realm vs. Realm areas dedicated to the ongoing battle between Order and Destruction. Should a player choose to take part in the larger battle, entering an RvR area provides a couple of options. There are large melee skirmishes, and objective-based keep sieges as well as a number of 24 player scenarios like Capture the Flag and Murder Ball. Of course, this is all without mentioning the ongoing campaign to capture an opposing realm's capital city. More about that in a second.
To keep the war balanced for players of any level, the four zones have been split up to cater to characters within a certain range. With the max level set at 40 for the game's launch, it's easy to assume that each zone covers a 10 level spread. And following those same lines, players are gradually introduced to the game's ongoing war mechanic.
In the first zone, players are merely able to take part in skirmishes and capturing battlefield objectives. The second zone introduces keeps and sieging, and the third increases the size of those keeps and adds defensive layers like walls. This is all building up to the real fight in Warhammer Online: the front on the opposing realm's capital city.
