I had completely given up on the idea of Dragon's Dogma being ported to PC, so imagine my surprise when I saw this official Capcom blog post appear on Twitter to announce the release of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the expanded re-release of the game, on Windows PCs in January 2016. The port will cost $29.99/€29.99/£23.99 and support, as expected, both the standard Xbox gamepads and mouse and keyboard controls.
The blog post also promises higher resolution graphics and increased fidelity, though there are no details on graphic options and framerate for now:
As of January 2016, the epic fantasy action-RPG Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available on Windows PC for $29.99 / € 29.99 / £ 23.99, with full Steam platform support. Huzzah!
In case you missed it on console, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is an awesome, inspired, sprawling fantasy game set in an open world, where players create their own unique character and supporting, AI-controlled characters known as Pawns, which can be (rented) and shared online by other players. Battle giant mythical beasts, master a variety of distinct vocations, and explore atmospheric dungeons to uncover endless items and loot.
The PC version will feature stunningly high-res graphics and improved fidelity, as well as support for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers, as well as a traditional keyboard and mouse control scheme.
Dragon's Dogma is a very flawed title that didn't really fully exploits its own system and could feel repetitive in the long run, but I still greatly enjoyed the time I spent with it, in no small part because of its stylish action combat system. I still have to play the Dark Arisen re-release, so at this point I might just wait for the PC release and jump on board, provided the port is of good quality.
