The combat system was quite nice and very easy to understand. You can see the damage numbers over the head of your enemy as you inflict blows, as well as special attack indicators above your head when you use them. This is great when you are using third person mode and you don't want to keep looking down at your chat window. When you click the an enemy or NPC, it's name is listed in brackets with a health bar indicator below it. When you gain experience you also see that indicated, each type of number is represented by a different color. Experience values in AO are represented by numbers, so you know exactly how much you are gaining and how much more you need.
