'˜Elite Collection' and '˜Elite Collection HD' iOS Apps Delayed (Briefly) Whilst More (AAA) Titles Added. Thanks NMA/Touch Arcade.
October 2011
Elite Systems, the long established UK based developer and electronic publisher of games for portable, mobile and other devices has announced a brief delay in the release of the '˜Elite Collection' and '˜Elite Collection HD' Apps which had been scheduled for release during the weekend of 28th October, 2011.
Speaking about the Apps, Elite® MD Steve Wilcox said,
We spend countless hours tracking down the current owners of the classic 8-bit home computer games (and the associated intellectual properties) which we include in our Apps. We come across some fascinating people and stories whilst doing so.
Earlier this week, an organisation - from whom we'd previously received a written (clearance) - claimed an interest in a trademark in one of the twenty five games in the Apps. This interest does not appear on the public records.
Since one of our declared goals for the (Elite Collection) Apps is, (to restore some order to the market for 8-bit home computer games) we needed some time to check the claim. At the time of writing, that claim is still being reviewed and we felt it would be inappropriate to release the Apps until it had been dealt with.
There is however some good news, the delay (which we expect will be brief, perhaps a couple of weeks), should provide us with an opportunity to include some more (AAA) titles to the Apps when, or shortly after they're released. The (AAA) titles are likely to include:
THE BARD'S TALE (I, II & III) the acclaimed fantasy role-playing video game series based loosely on traditional Dungeons and Dragons game play and inspired by the Wizardry computer games. WASTELAND a post-apocalyptic computer role-playing game first released in 1988 and perhaps also DRAGON WARS and NEUROMANCER. A revised release date and the dates of the 7-day-only promotional launch pricing (£0.69/Euro0.79/$0.99) will be announced shortly.
