Commander Shepard is a promising young officer in the Human Alliance military and the protagonist you'll be assuming the role of during Mass Effect. Early in the game, Shepard will be assigned to the crew of the Normandy, the most advanced prototype vessel ever designed. From there, you'll lead your elite recon squad across a galaxy in turmoil, in a desperate race to stop the return of an enemy without mercy.
Throughout the game, Shepard will be presented with many choices that have a Paragon, neutral, and/or Renegade dialogue option. Paragon choices typically are more compassionate and law-abiding, while Renegade choices are typically more ruthless, threatening, or capable of causing collateral damage. Either choice can ultimately get the result you want, though the method will obviously be different. As Shepard gains Paragon and/or Renegade points, he is granted certain rewards:
Paragon Rewards
- 5% of total points grants access to two Charm ranks and provides one free rank in Charm.
- 25% of total points grants access to two more Charm ranks, provides another free rank in Charm, and reduces your First Aid cooldown by 10%.
- 50% of total points grants a 10% bonus to Shepard's maximum health.
- 75% of total points earns the Paragon Xbox 360 achievement, grants access to two more Charm ranks, provides another free rank in Charm, and reduces your biotic/tech ability cooldowns by 5%.
Renegade Rewards
- 5% of total points grants access to Intimidate ranks and provides one free rank in Intimidate.
- 25% of total points grants access to two more Intimidate ranks, provides another free rank in Intimidate, and reduces your weapon ability cooldowns by 10%.
- 50% of total points increases Shepard's health regeneration rate by 1 point/second.
- 75% of total points earns the Renegade Xbox 360 achievement, grants access to two more Intimidate ranks, provides another free rank in Intimidate, and increases the damage and duration of all weapons and abilities by 5%.
