Demigod represents a drive toward accessibility by Gas Powered Games, which had received criticism for its complex breed of strategy in Supreme Commander. While the scope and scale remain intact here, much of the complexity has been stripped away for a faster paced game. Scaling multiplayer maps are a part of this effort, allowing you to easily jump into a game without the worry that you might have to devote hours to finishing the battle. Taking away control of individual units and only granting reign over a demigod also contributes to the game's amplified accessibility. Instead of having to micromanage a hundred units, you're able to focus on your demigod and managing your upgrades.
The game, which is essentially complete, is expected to undergo a number of iterations between now and its February 2009 launch. Gas Powered Games has finished work on the design and graphics, leaving a few months to concentrate on balancing and polish. Mind you, little polish is needed visually as Demigod is immensely impressive. We'll see how the rest of the game shakes out early next year.
