Dark Age of Camelot One Year Anniversary

FAIRFAX, VA OCTOBER 9, 2002 On the one-year anniversary of the launch of the runaway hit online game Dark Age of Camelot, Mythic Entertainment www.mythicentertainment.com announced that to date, over 500,000 people have played the game, with over 50,000 people around the world having played simultaneously at peak times. This announcement comes just two months before the December 2002 launch of the company's much-anticipated first expansion pack, Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles.

Dark Age of Camelot is the fastest growing massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in North America and Europe. Over 200,000 people currently subscribe to Dark Age of Camelot. The game recently entered the open beta stage in Korea and over 100,000 people are currently participating. Mythic's major international partners for Dark Age of Camelot include: Vivendi Universal Games, their North American distributor; Wanadoo, their publishing and hosting partner in France, Germany and the U.K.; CTOspa, their publishing and hosting partner in Italy; Buff Entertainment in Korea and Capcom in Japan.
Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles is the first expansion pack for Dark Age of Camelot. It extends the story of the original game with new character classes, new races, and three new continents. It also includes an exciting update of the graphics engine allowing greater frame rates and the ability to take full advantage of today's video boards. The game is scheduled for release in mid-December. It is developed by Mythic Entertainment and co-published with Abandon Entertainment in North America.
In addition to these quantitative milestones, Mythic was also recently nominated in the UK for multiplayer game of the year award by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). Since its release it has been the most acclaimed online game amongst reviewers receiving many awards including: Gamespot 9.1 out of 10, naming it Multiplayer Role Playing Game of the Year and one of the top ten PC games of 2001; USA Today and MSNBC both named the game PC Top Game of the Year; PC Gamer awarded the game their Editors' Choice award and 90% rating; Computer Gaming World awarded it their Editors' Choice award and a four and half stars out of five). It was also awarded online game of 2001 by the AIAS.
