The future success of Neverwinter Nights 2 will depend, in the short term, on Obsidian and Atari patching the game...and then, as with the first game, on the fan community to provide modules of their own. In the latter, at least, we have faith. But in its current state, and for those who just want a single-player RPG, this is recommended to D&D diehards only, who are probably the only ones with enough goodwill to slog through the problems. Everyone else -- wait awhile. A great RPG is in here somewhere; it's just not ready yet.
While JustPressPlay gives the game an overall score of 8.3/10:
In the end, NWN2 is a blend of outstanding and awful. It has a great number of classes and prestige classes to pick from, but suffers from horrible AI in almost all areas. While the story isn't great, it'll keep you fighting new things, which may be a good point for some. The real draw in this game is the stronghold you'll gain, and it really does pull a lot of the game together, even with all of its faults. If you're looking for a good PC RPG, I suggest it. If you loved the first NWN, then aren't going to listen to any review and get it anyway. In the end though, it is a good game.
UGO gives the game an overall score of "A-":
If you are a D&D dork like me or enjoyed the Baldur's Gate franchise or the original Neverwinter Nights, there is absolutely no reason for you not to play this game. Technical issues exist, but they're minor and don't get in the way of a massive and impressive fantasy role-playing experience. If you're new to CRPGs, NWN 2 might seem a bit intimidating, but give it a little time and you'll find a very rewarding quest awaiting only your participation. As Glenn Yarborough said in the animated version of The Hobbit, "The greatest adventure is what lies ahead," and in NWN 2, it's an adventure well worth experiencing.
And Gamepyre gives the game an overall score of 92/100:
Obsidian, Atari, and Bioware score another hit with Neverwinter Nights 2. As a fan of the original Neverwinter Nights, I am not disappointed in the slightest. Everything I was hoping for from a sequel, and so much more. This game has an excellent story that pulls you in from the very beginning, great graphics, and tons of races and classes make this game have excellent replay value.
