So what do we think about Cyanide Studios, a decade old developer with studios in Paris, China and Montreal? Hmmm... it certainly doesn't have the commercial gameography of a BioWare or a Bethesda. Starting off with sport simulations like Pro Cycling Manager, Horse Racing Manager and Pro Rugby Manager they've diversified in more recent times with the bizarre sport/fantasy mash ups of Chaos League and Blood Bowl, as well as hack '˜n' slasher Loki. Nothing has particularly set the world of fire, although that could be as much a product of their niche nature as their development quality. If you happened to miss the original announcement, check out our previous newsbit.
The good news is that Cyanide Studios is populated by genuine A Song of Fire and Ice fanboys and George R. R Martin who will be hands-on with the game's development has gone on record saying that five years of persistence from the developer and genuine love for the source material is what led him to go in its direction. With millions of books sold worldwide, the HBO series in the works and translations of the novels into some twenty languages, A Song of Fire and Ice has the brand power to get Cyanide the publisher, budget and distribution to make a leap up into the big time with these games.
