Having described how Expeditions: Rome will handle sieges in this here developer diary, THQ Nordic and Logic Artists now also bring us a trailer that shows off exactly what your party will be doing to ensure your legion's success whenever it will happen upon a settlement in need of besieging. Check it out:
And with the game launching tomorrow, you might also want to read some reviews for it. As such, you can now find a few of those below:
Rock Paper Shotgun Scoreless:
Everything meshes together with the ongoing development of your personal squad of Praetorians, and the missions they undertake, in a web of connected systems which I could have a miserable time describing in detail, and you could have a miserable time reading and not quite grasping. So, just… take my word for it, basically. When I previewed ER last year, I was skeptical the game would manage to make you feel like you were commanding a legion during the moments between the turn-based fights at its core, but the power fantasy genuinely works.
RPGamer 4/5:
For those looking for an engaging historical RPG, Expeditions: Rome is an easy recommendation. The options for tailoring the difficulty allows players to focus on their preferred elements and make it challenging, welcoming, and rewarding depending on what players want. While the game’s interpretation of Rome may simplify the issues of the time, Expeditions: Rome successfully uses its setting to create a very enjoyable role-playing experience.
CGMagazine 7/10:
The overwhelming feeling I had in my time with Expeditions: Rome is that it’s perfectly average. If you have a strong draw to Roman history, there’s a lot to love, as the game goes full-force into its setting. The systems all work together competently, but never do anything to stand out from the pack of other CRPGs out there. Even so, I kept finding myself wanting to play more, wanting to conquer that extra little bit of land. If you’re hankering for a new CRPG with a lot of systems to learn, you can certainly do worse than Expeditions: Rome.
NME 4/5:
A few small annoyances aside, Expeditions: Rome is an impressive, huge, and exciting CRPG. Massively ambitious in its combination of genres, and competent enough to make the variety work massively in its favour.
GameGrin 10/10:
A story that pays attention to your actions, gorgeous graphical design, and perfect gameplay to support these two make Expeditions: Rome the absolute joy it is to play, with great mechanics and decisions at every turn. With options available for new and old comers to the genre, I see little reason not to pick up Expeditions: Rome for anyone interested in the genre and title.
GameRant 2.5/5:
Expeditions: Rome feels more like a mod with Roman themes than a fully fleshed-out game. From the customization to the design, there are many details that feel unfinished or lack the depth expected of games in the strategy genre. Still, there is fun to be had if players are willing to focus exclusively on the tactics and strategy. Those looking for more of the same coming off Expeditions: Viking will be satisfied enough, even if this new title doesn't feature any major innovations.
