I am sorry to say I have intermitantly encountered the same problem. I always quick save first but I thought it was just that I have a machine on the lower end of the game scale.

Not being a PnP AD&D type myself, I had a random encounter in the area around the town. It was with a 'traditional"adventuring party. They challenged me as a brigand;which I'm not (alignment of party is NG).

There will be a little icon in your spell book next to each spell. Click on it and it will show what features you can add to your spells. Generally they go up a level.

I am only finishing up the first level of the temple so this may be moot, however; why am I always broke? It appears their are few quests that you get paid for etc. CG party and now I am starting to craft items. I could go on a killing spree in town but that isn't good for dialogue purposes!

Look under the radial wheel with the picture of the body. That is where the copy scroll function is. I did not find it until lvl 5.

It does take several trips and you have to finish the quests for her Dad first (I think). My Bard was lvl 16 cha and he had no problem with the quest either. Don't know about alignment (CG) in my case.
