I played through one full game giving all possible character bonuses (hell bonuses, lum the mad, etc) to my main character, a Monk. I then played through a complete game doing the exact same thing again, solo with the monk. Then I did it again. I now have 98% magic resistance, -18 AC, 25 str, 25 con ...

I spent 4 hours downloading it, then cancelled install when it said 'Uncompatible with Throne of Bhaal.' Although the expansion is considered by many to not be that great, my favorite character is higher level than the exp cap in SoA, so I can't import them into the expansion. Mutter.

For my monk solo character, I only pick up 3 items, and everything else is sold to the store: ring of gaxx, cloak of mirroring, and gauntlets of crushing. These are the only 3 items I use, and it's quite a fun solo game :)

This is a known bug that is caused by the changed character models. Dunno exactly why it's caused, but some of the patches help with it, reducing it's occurances.

As a monk, you can easily get over 100% magic resistance. With a cloak of mirroring, the only spell that can touch you is dispel magic and imprisonment. Funny, that... completely invulnerable to spells, but one imprisonment and you're instantly dead, no save... *slight spoiler* as a level 38 monk, I ...

Baldurdash has what could be considered a 'hack' program specifically designed to fix bugs that Interplay does not fix within the game with their patches. I know over 50 bugs were fixed with the SoA patch from baldurdash.

Hardiness Bug?

It's stackable!

It lasts 1 round per 2 levels of the user. You can use it 3 times in a row, to gain 120% resistance to physical damage. At level 40, this will last for 17 rounds. A barbarian only needs to use it twice. 18 rounds is more than enough time to easily turn the tide of battle, when one ...

I ran a several hour test last night, created two characters with the same stats etc and gave them both max level with correct abilities and the best possible set of eq at end game. One was a monk, one was a fighter. First off, the fighter won every time, whether dual wielding or wearing a shield ...

5 boots of speed (you get 2 in SoA, 3 from Saradush) and yes, grandmaster armor. White dragonscale is better on a fighter than a thief, despite the ability to use thief abilities, and any PC character that is a thief would use grandmaster armor.

I would like to re-iterate that my purpose for this ...

Cloak of mirroring kicks butt. I actually go up and stand next to liches just to get them to waste all their spells on me. The only thing that hit was Symbol - Stun.

Fighter items - i was talking about weapons/armor, and yes, you can get all of those abilities from 1 or 2 weapons.
Cloak of mirroring - yes, it does not reflect any more, it absorbs. It absorbs even area spells (doesn't help party members, but makes the char with it on immune).
Boots of speed ...

How do you expect yourself to enjoy the game when you don't read any of the plot, don't even know the names of those you're killing, etc? Is all you're interesting in something that can kill you?

Would think cloak of reflection just as good as the high magic resistance of a monk.

The reason I started this thread was because I really wanted to play the class, and obviously I don't see how to do it that makes it better than a fighter in any aspect other than the magic resistance. As to the +6 weapons, I was thinking that if I wielded one of those, my # of attacks is reduced to ...

Monk vs. Fighter

This comparison is made at end game, maximum potential, including equipment. I am using a dual-wielding fighter for this comparison.

HPs:
Monk: 9d8+62
Fighter: 9d10+93
Advantage: Fighter

Level:
Monk: 40
Fighter: 40
Advantage: Neither

Max magical equiv.:
Monk: +4 weapons
Fighter: +6 weapons ...

Me and my brother were discussing Cheese in the game a bit, and we got onto the topic of Kensai-Mages. He came up with the explanation that for the first part of you're life, you devote yourself entirely to the sword, then later, your obsessive-compulsive disorder shifts to mage-craft :p

I'd love to see Two's fight against the Ravager.

As a note, I have my tanks AC at -10 to -18, have 4 tanks, Sarevok, a PC swashbuckler, a PC berserker, and a PC ranger. The swashbuckler has -18 AC and dies rather fast in the later battles. Berserker sometimes dies, but gets resurrected. Sarevok ...

I doubt you'll survive all of ToB :) There are some extremely hard battles with some particular circumstances that make them considerably more difficult than the others you have faced so far.
