I found out that I was never actually hitting him until I discharged all the lighting from the rod.

the problem is that I am hitting him. He dissappeard and returns fully regenerated.

I've read a number of posts on this topic, but still have a problem. When the fourth shadow stone drops, Nauselon appears right away - I have to rush to pick up the stone and place it on the wall. Then I grab the staff.
