Just a few random thoughts on this thread:

If the idea is to find apolitical or consensus oversight of the Internet/web to ensure free speech and internationalism, that's never going to happen. Any oversight body will be inherently political, and a political body will always want to assert itself ...

I would echo that and also emphasize that in D&D there is no rule the DM can't change. So the whole point is for the DM to exercise judgement and keep balance strongly in mind.

My overarching point remains: I think this is still against the published rules, not because of bonus-stacking, but ...

This is an *extremely* complicated issue and really can only be judged with extensive knowledge of the local ecosystem. *But*, several interesting things have been said here; so I'll talk about the bits I know something about (a first for me? :) ).

In my experience, reintroductions are often ...

Yikes, this is getting a bit serious! But I have to agree, it's definitely a button--remember in Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo uses Luke's lightsaber to cut open the taun-taun. And as we know, Han had a lot going for him, but a heap of Force points was not among them. :)

I'll confess to not having read my way all through this thread, but it seems worth noting that US farm subsidies today largely go to giant agribusiness conglomerates that surely don't need them (and arguably do spooky things with them), not to small farmers. So I'm concerned not only with cuts or ...

On the subjects of criminals suing for injuries, etc. during commission of crimes, it would be interesting to see actual cases and their actual final outcomes after appeals. My guess is there are more urban legends about such things than actual cases. It's easy to sue anybody for anything in the US ...

[QUOTE]Because the government steals people's stuff. Have you ever heard of "Burning Man"? Used to be in SF now in Nevada. Well its a festival where money has no value. Everything is based on a gifting system. Check it out. If people are admitting they made money off of illegal activities, that ...

Irrevelant?! That's a pissy way of saying you disagree, that's all. If you had 10 magic rings that had stackable bonuses, you still couldn't wear them all.

This has really convinced me that 3E has successfully corrupted the game into a Diablo-style overpowering frenzy. Kids can't control themselves ...

I said exactly the opposite. Or rather, I noted that's exactly what the gov't already does. You seem to bizarrely be accusing the gov't of committing the criminal's crime. If you are suggesting the gov't *doesn't* immediately prosecute people who report criminal activity as a source of income, you ...

I always found Anomen to be pretty amusing--I know I'm in a minority. He does have some interesting personal quests, and esp. if you're playing a straight-arrow character yourself there's opportunity for you to have some interesting interaction with him. But that goes for most of the NPCs, too.

Negligence during the commission of a crime doesn't erase the negligence; it compounds the crime. Negligence has little to do with whether the other party is willing or not; it's about your own, well, *negligence* in doing something essentially harmful. See the recent tobacco lawsuits.

Why is it ...

The overall idea here is that cure/heal spells consist of positive energy, the same thing that sustains life and spirits. Anything with life and spirit can be healed by positive energy spells. Constructs are not alive per se, which is why Raise Dead and Resurrection don't work on them. But they do ...

I have serious doubts that those are intended to stack, and I certainly wouldn't allow it in my game.

First, the DMG's illustration notwithstanding, it's pretty clear you should only be able to use one ioun stone at a time. (See the restrictions on magic item wearing by body part, which ...

Go to http://www.wizards.com/dnd for a primer on how to play D&D.

For 10 bucks you can buy a basic introductory box set.

At minimum to play D&D you need the Dungeon Master's Guide and the Player's Handbook (and most likely the Monster Manual), and you need to actually read good chunks of them ...

Like so many games today, it felt rushed and flimsy overall, and got worse as it went. I didn't really bother trying to think about it thematically, because the whole game was just so unpolished by that point.

VAGUE SPOILERS:

BGII: SOA has a very complex storyline, not a linear person-hunt. On your first question, the answer is that you don't save Imoen right away, nor is she a boss-battle trophy at the end. As for the boss battle, I won't give it away--read the ...

I'm going on old memories here, but you should you be able to get there by going to the city of Baldur's Gate, not actually entering the town, and instead going north/east around it. As I recall, you basically have to go upriver from Baldur's Gate--the ...

Believe it or not, I still have a mint condition "data card" for this game.

It is indeed the space bar that shuts off the "quick" mode.

Left Arrow: is identical to the EXIT command from menus. In combat, pressing this key will take back a ...

I think Neverwinter Nights is pretty amazing just in terms of the community that's sprung up around it--that you can actually play other people's D&D modules with it. I've had outstanding, true RPG experiences with that game playing amateur mods downloaded from Neverwinter Vault.

As a Diablo-hater ...
