Well...don't worry about throwing anything away. You'll find that as you progess in level, the enemies you fight will also advance with you. As in, instead of fighting a Clannfear Runt...eventually you'll fight a Clannfear later. Also, in the beginning, a regular bandit was probably attacking you ...

Very true (above). Sometimes you'll find that one Oblivion gate leads to a plane that has two gates. In other words, if you close one, you'll close any other gate leading to that plane. More on Oblivion Gates

When you go into an OG, and kill everything in the towers, go back through them, and the Scamps and other baddies will respawn inside. Granted it's not ALL of them, but if you are in an OG, and still crave the "Hunt", some baddies do respawn after a while.
