I can help you with your quote: the source is John Greenleaf Whittier in "Maud Muller",
line 105. But the first word of the quote is "For," not "Of":

For all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been."

Torgal comes charging out of his room. Try casting web or entangle. If he's held in place you can weaken him with missiles and spells.

Well, my main character was wearing the Cloak of Mirroring, so I suppose Irenicus might have Disintegrated himself, but he had cast some protections first. I dearly wish I could have had time to read the messages at the bottom of the screen before the game ended. A bug seems likely, but surely ...

I posted a question about this bottle a while back and one reply said it is used by Mazzy against an ogre who accosts her outside the Copper Coronet. However, although I went to the CC with Mazzy many times, no ogre ever appeared for me. I never found a use for the bottle.

Is it supposed to end this way? (spoiler?)

Well, I just finished BGII for the first (and perhaps last) time, and I want to ask if someone can tell me what happened in the final fight.

I thought I would have to go into Jon's room so I inserted the fifth gem without first getting ready for a battle--no protective spells or anything. Of course ...

Yes--as a follow-up to my "you have to be patient" message above, let me say that my Jaheira romance did fail. After the events above nothing else ever happened. (My party is now standing outside the door to Irenicus' final refuge, and the game will end on day 160.) I don't think the Jaheira romance ...

I'm surprised about the complaints regarding "American" accents. What has annoyed me in the game is the almost exclusive use in background speech and minor NPC's (merchants, streetwalkers, etc.) of lower-class English accents. Why all the citizens of Amn should speak like Eliza Doolittle before ...

Thank you all very much for this helpful information! What nice people there are on this board.

I did use the Ring of the Ram on Kangaxx, and I guess it was that, plus good old Mazzy and the Gesen Bow, that did him in (while my main character, a heroic Berserker, hid in the corner so he wouldn't be ...

Four questions

1) Is there a location I can go to and find when characters get new weapon skills--at which levels they get them?

2) Has anyone used the Wand of Wonder in combat? Does it tend to damage the enemy more than it does you?

3) I finally killed Kangaxx, although I'm not sure just how I did it. Does ...

Thanks for this information; but I am still in the dark as to how this stone's strange message links the Slaver Lords with the Slum Slavers. I do have the Baldurdash pack. Oh, well, just another little BG mystery.....

An Odd Rogue Stone

Somewhere in Chapter VI I have picked up a Rogue Stone which cannot be sold (value=0) and whose description is as follows: "I am in the Bridge District of Athtakla. Why kind of trick are you playing on me?" (It does say 'why," not "what.")

Does anyone know what this is?

The Jaheira romance is incredibly prolonged. Mine seems to be going OK, but I did not get the Terminsel "this note was blowing in the wind" event until approximately day 112, and the "dawning of our day" speech until about 120. You have to be patient.

An interesting post: I just got back from Ust Natha, having taken Viconia there specifically to find out if this added anything to the plot.

It doesn't.

Viconia does have a few comments (advice to you, a few words to others) but I found no special quests or actions.

However--a tiny spoiler here ...

BGI was good, but I played it only once and won't be playing it again. I like outdoor quests but, gosh, after a while it became a boring routine: land in the corner of a new map, begin a methodical sweep of the area to find the baddies, kill them, sell loot, leave for a new map, repeat ad infinitum ...

Head for the hills: the Umar Hills and the Windspear Hills. You should have received both of these quests by now (if not, try Lord Firkraag in the Copper Coronet and go to the city gates to see Delon.) There is also the Trademeet quest.
Plus there are many quests in town, including the Planar Sphere ...

Yoshimo questions (spoiler)

If you have Yoshimo with you in the Asylum, can his betrayal take different forms? I assumed I would be fighting him at some point, but instead he did nothing until I completed the Asylum tour. Then, while the screen is frozen so Jon I. can make his speeches, Yoshimo just disappeared from my party ...
