This really is like comparing C&C to Quake 3, innit? D2 is all about item gathering and skill allocation, however much some people would disagree. The point of BG2 is role-playing, with a healthy dose of strategy. They're both excellent, though, in their own ways.

IIRC, I found it in a chest in Jan's house, in the slums, downstairs. It's a quest item, too, so if I kick out the person with it, it gets transferred to my main char. Don't have a clue what it does, though, the only ogre who's even slightly challenging is the jailer in the illithid tunnels in the ...
